The Vaillant sensoNET internet gateway (VR921, part no. 0020260963) is the older of Vaillant's two current internet gateways. It pairs with the sensoAPP and remains in the range primarily because it's the only Vaillant gateway compatible with ambiSENSE smart radiator valves — making it the required specification for any installation using per-radiator eBUS zone control.

When you need sensoNET rather than myVAILLANT connect

For new installations without ambiSENSE, the myVAILLANT connect (VR940f) is the current gateway and the one to specify. The sensoNET VR921 is required specifically when the project includes Vaillant ambiSENSE smart TRV heads (VR50/VR51) for per-radiator scheduling — ambiSENSE is not compatible with the VR940f. This makes the VR921 the gateway of choice for HMOs, larger homes wanting room-by-room control, or light commercial buildings where up to 20 individual zones are required.

sensoNET vs myVAILLANT connect — the key difference

These are two completely separate products with different apps, and they are not interchangeable. The VR921 uses the sensoAPP; the VR940f uses the myVAILLANT app. If a customer needs ambiSENSE smart TRVs, they need the VR921. If they don't, they need the VR940f. Fitting the wrong one means a completely different setup process and a different app download.
