The Vaillant sensoROOM (VRT50/2, part no. 0010038663) is a digital eBUS room thermostat that gives you a clearer interface than the dial-only sensoROOM pure, while keeping the same single-zone modulating control at the core. It's a step up in display and configurability — without the complexity of a full programmable thermostat.

How it works

Unlike volt-free thermostats that simply switch a boiler on and off, the sensoROOM VRT50/2 communicates via Vaillant's eBUS protocol. This means the boiler continuously adjusts its output based on what the thermostat is asking for — modulating its flame rather than firing at full output and cutting off. The result is a more stable room temperature, fewer on/off cycles, and lower gas bills. This is why Vaillant recommend their own controls rather than third-party alternatives: fitting a Nest or Hive on volt-free wiring discards the modulating capability you paid for in the boiler.

Compatibility

Requires a Vaillant eBUS boiler. For eBUS boilers installed before 2018, a VRA42 adaptor may be needed. Not compatible with non-Vaillant boilers or volt-free wiring — this control is designed specifically to run on the eBUS two-wire connection.
